THE MICROVASCULAR ANASTOMOSIS USING AMNIOTIC CUFF
Kim Chin-Hwan

Abstract
Recently end-to-end anastomosis of arteries less than one mm. in diameter has been successfully accomplished. However, good results have not been obtained consistently. The complications of excessive bleeding and/or thrombosis at the site of repair have not infrequently resulted in failure and it is desirable to minimize both number of sutures in a microvascular anastomosis and the bleeding at the anastomotic site.

The Application of amniotic cuff to the anastomotic site permits fewer sutures and eliminates bleeding at the anastomotic site. a 100 percent one week patency rate in 0.8~1.0mm. rat femoral artery is achieved using only four sutures per anastomosis and patency rate is also 100 percent after two weeks. This study indicates that the number of sutures in a perfectly hemostatic anastomosis can be significantly reduced with the use of amniotic membane as a cuff.
